What does NetCare Untangle do?

- Web Content Cont rol - Web Content Control can block any website you want, protect the network from malware on the web and conserve bandwidth by blocking audio/video downloads.
- Protocol Control - Protocol Control takes back control of your network from disruptive port-hopping applications like peer-to-peer applications or online games.
- Virus Blocker - The Virus Blocker is your first defence against viruses. We recommend using this as well as your existing AV software to stop a high proportion of viruses before they get inside your network.
- Spyware Blocker - Spyware Blocker protects users from browsing websites that install malware.
- Intrusion Prevention - Intrusion Prevention blocks hacking attempts before they reach internal servers and desktops.
- AD Connector - The AD Connector allows you to fully link into your Windows. Active Directory, meaning we can set up policies for different users or groups of users, regardless of which PC they use. This means for example that you can allow selected users to view a specific website, whilst others are prevented.
- Reporting - Reports provide the visibility and data necessary to investigate security incidents and enforce acceptable network usage policies. It provides monitoring at the user, PC and incident level and also details traffic flows and network usage patterns.

Final Points
We’ve been using NetCare Untangle ourselves since December 2008, and we love it. It does all it says it does, plus more. And the icing on the cake is that because you’re running it all on a separate gateway server, you’re also lessening the risk of your main server running slow, freezing up or crashing completely.
